Sinterklaas poems in English, any feedback welcome
I'm writing three sinterklaas poems for the first time. They are pretty basic. But it's the first time I've tried writing them and would like some feedback. I can't ask my SO as they are for her and her family and I don't know any other Dutch people personally. Thanks
Tis the season to be jolly, But your year so far seems full of folly, But one reprieve I'll tell you dear, Just to keep your spirits high this year, My trusty steed Amerigo, Would never throw you off, oh no!
Yes I've heard all about that ride, Your horse jumping – you falling off the side, I've heard about the year you've had, from your Kiwi friend, what a lad!
What a year we've all had indeed, Piet and Amerigo – my trusty steed,
This year Sint has been travelling loads, Visiting friends in the antipodes, Piet and Amerigo stayed home, Sint travelled all alone, Travelling from his home in Spain, Travelling alone is such a pain,
Now that is why we're glad to hear, You've found a travel companion last year, All the best for future journeys, Don't forget your boots or jerseys
Jan my lad you are so lucky, I'll tell you why, you plucky ducky, Two lovely women that fill your home, Means no cold night spent alone,
Now dear Jan I've been asking round, It seems a naughtier boy cannot be found! To make up for your misbehaving, You'll have to do something amazing.
Sorry Jan but it's getting late, I've got to get ready for a date, Yes it's true Sint has just Piet, To keep me company, and rub my feet
As I said, not all are so lucky, As you Jan, you lucky ducky.
And for the first time Sint sits and writes, In English, here in the dead of night,
In my villa we've been preparing, All the presents for the good boys and girls, In the factory Zwarte Piet's still sweeping but Amerigo's already sleeping
But of course the question here, Has Janny been a good girl this year?”, To some surprise Sint must say, That sweet Janny's merely been 'okay'
Now's the time, your report card's due, This year shows a lack of virtue, On the other hand it is clear to me, That deep down Janny's a good friend to me,
For as a child I do remember, Her sneaking out in late December, Creeping over to the fire, And leaving biscuits to cure my tire.
That is why I can declare, That you get a pass this year, But this trend is still quite shocking, For next year coal may fill your stocking!
